SDNB, We Energies Unveil Innovative Solar Energy Program

We Energies will be turning sunshine into solar power on numerous School District of NewBerlin (SDNB) buildings and vacant land. This partnership with SDNB is the first project as part of We Energies’ innovative Solar Now program.

The Solar Now program will create 35 megawatts (MW) of clean, renewable energy that will benefit all We Energies customers.

Careers-In-Action Tours Expose Students to High -Demand Industries

Careers in the fields of healthcare, advanced manufacturing and computer science were the focus of the School District of New Berlin's 2019 Careers-in-Action Industry Tours last month.

More than 100 students across grades 8-12 took advantage of the experiential learning opportunity, a key part of the annual College and Career Readiness Event Series, which helps inform the students' high school course selections and post-secondary planning as part of their Academic and Career Planning (ACP) process.

Both New Berlin High Schools Rank High on U.S. News' List

 

   

The School District of New Berlin’s two high schools rank high on the U.S. News and World Report’s 2019 rankings, despite the online publication’s overhauled evaluation system.

New Berlin Eisenhower ranked fifth and West 16th among the 457 ranked high schools in Wisconsin, and 219th and 603rd nationally out of 17,245 ranked schools, according to the publication.

Voters Reject Referendum

According to the unofficial results, the School District of New Berlin's operational referendum was rejected by voters April 2. 

No:  6,196 |  52.7 percent

Yes: 5,572 |  47.3 percent

The referendum asked residents if they favor increasing the revenue limit by $5 million in each of the next five years.  The specific question on the ballot was:

"Shall the School District of New Berlin, Waukesha County, Wisconsin, be authorized to exceed the revenue limit specified in Section 121.91, Wisconsin Statutes, by $5 million per year for the 2019-20 school year through the 2023-24 school year, for non-recurring purposes consisting of operational expenses, including paying debt within the operating budget; funding long-range plans for facilities, equipment, safety, technology infrastructure, and curriculum and instruction; and fair and competitive staff compensation?"

Computer Programmer Mentor Needed for 2019-20 School Year

The district is putting a call out for computer programmer mentors for our 2019-20 AP Computer Science Principles course.  The class meets from 7:30 - 8:30 a.m.  The time commitment would be one to two times per month.

Two SDNB Teachers, Three Students Earn Herb Kohl Education Awards

Two School District of New Berlin teachers and three high school seniors have been chosen as Herb Kohl Educational Foundation award winners. It is the second consecutive year the SDNB has had at least five Kohl award recipients.

Eisenhower's McKinnon Named Project Lead The Way's National Teacher of the Year

New Berlin Eisenhower teacher Devin McKinnon was recently recognized by Project Lead The Way (PLTW) as the Robert and Patricia Kern PLTW National Teacher of the Year, which is the highest recognition for PLTW educators. PLTW President and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Vince Bertram presented the award in front of nearly 1,000 attendees, including teachers from across the United States at PLTW’s national conference in Indianapolis – PLTW Summit.

The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction has designated February as Career and Technical Education Month to shine a spotlight on the important role Career and Technical Education (CTE) plays in preparing students for college and careers. SDNB to Host Community Wellness Expo on Jan. 24

The School District of New Berlin will be hosting a Community Wellness Expo on Thursday, Jan. 24, from 5-8 p.m. at New Berlin West High School, 18695 W. Cleveland Ave.

Presented by Orthopaedic Hospital of Wisconsin, the evening will feature a vendor fair with resources to support attendees looking to improve their physical, mental and financial health. The event will also offer a number of informational presentations and workshops presented by local experts.

Just like the New Berlin community as a whole, our school district emphasizes a sense of togetherness and belonging among our students, families, teachers, staff and alumni.
