SDNB Honors Local Businesses, Organizations for Their Support

Over the last several months dating back to last school year, the School District of New Berlin’s administration and Board of Education have recognized Aurora Worldwide Development Corporation, Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin, The Mad Cete and Tim O’Brien Homes for their support of the district's schools.

The organizations and businesses were recently honored as part of the Wisconsin Association of School Boards' 2020 Business Honor Roll program. The program recognizes local school district business partners that support their local schools by providing resources or additional learning opportunities for students and staff.

The Wisconsin Association of School Boards has set Oct. 6-12 as Wisconsin School Board Week as a time to build awareness and understanding of the vital function an elected board of education plays in our communities. The School District of New Berlin is joining all public school districts across the state to celebrate Wisconsin School Board Appreciation Week to honor local board members for their commitment to New Berlin and its children.

Students Set to Build Third Home with Tim O'Brien Homes

The School District of New Berlin and Tim O’Brien Homes will kick off the third year of their partnership with the groundbreaking of a new single-family home in Franklin’s Ryanwood Manor community Wednesday, September 9.

Ten Construction III students, from both Eisenhower and West, will work alongside the Tim O’Brien Homes construction team and contracted trade partners to build a version of Tim O’Brien Homes’ “Sage” ranch home plan. The previous two homes built in part by SDNB students are located in the Red Fox Crossing neighborhood and are now owned and occupied by New Berlin families.

School Board Shows Support for Local Control for Opening, Closing of Schools

With the school year quickly approaching, the School District of New Berlin’s Board of Education approved a resolution in support of local government control related to school openings and closings amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The resolution was passed Monday, Aug. 24.

The SDNB’s administration, with the support of the School Board and in conjunction with Waukesha County’s “Stay Safe to Stay Open” campaign, has been working all summer toward a full in-person return to school this fall coupled with a full distance learning, or virtual, option for those families that choose or need it. The district also continues to investigate long-term hybrid models (typically a week of instruction split into in-person and virtual) and will begin the school year with two weeks of the hybrid instructional model for all students.

SDNB Awarded $19,000 Fab Lab Grant by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation

The School District of New Berlin was awarded a $19,000 state grant from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) for equipment in the new fabrication laboratory, or fab lab, which opened at New Berlin West Middle / High School last fall. The fab lab is designed to equip New Berlin students with essential skills for the 21st century’s global economy.

Eisenhower, West Remain Among Top WI High Schools in U.S. News and World Report's 2020 Rankings

The School District of New Berlin’s two high schools are considered among the state’s and nation’s best, according to the U.S. News and World Report’s 2020 rankings.

New Berlin Eisenhower ranked fifth - for the second straight year - while West was 25th among the 453 ranked Wisconsin high schools. With rankings of 331st and 926nd, both Eisenhower and West finished in the top 5.5 percent of the nearly 18,000 nationally ranked schools, according to the publication.

Ike, West Theater Programs Awarded for Excellence

Through a virtual reveal held Monday, April 20, the Overture Center for the Arts in Madison announced its 2020 Jerry Award winners.


New Berlin Eisenhower’s production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame won for Outstanding Musical. West’s Alyssa Buckett, who played Enid Hoops in Legally Blonde, also earned a Jerry Award for Outstanding Supporting Performance. West’s William Dettlaff and Eisenhower’s Kennedy Harwood received Jerry Spirit Awards.

Just before the statewide school closures and the cancellation of events and activities, several New Berlin Eisenhower and West students placed or medaled at the Wisconsin DECA District State Career Development Conference at The Grand Geneva in Lake Geneva March 10-12.

Three School District of New Berlin teachers and three high school seniors have been chosen as Herb Kohl Educational Foundation award winners. It is the second consecutive year the SDNB has had at least five Kohl award recipients.
