SDNB Honors Local Businesses, Organizations for Their Support

Over the last several months dating back to last school year, the School District of New Berlin’s administration and Board of Education have recognized Aurora Worldwide Development Corporation, Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin, The Mad Cete and Tim O’Brien Homes for their support of the district's schools.

The organizations and businesses were recently honored as part of the Wisconsin Association of School Boards' 2020 Business Honor Roll program. The program recognizes local school district business partners that support their local schools by providing resources or additional learning opportunities for students and staff.

“Year in and year out, we have businesses and organizations that stand out as strong supporters of the School District of New Berlin,” Superintendent Joe Garza said. “Our students have benefited from the involvement of Aurora WDC, Froedtert, The Mad Cete and Tim O’Brien Homes in so many ways. We are honored to acknowledge them for their generous support and for helping to prepare the students of our community to be our future leaders.”

Aurora WDC allows a group of SDNB students passionate about intelligence and the technological disruption in today’s workforce to gain insight and experiential learning by assisting in researching and learning from the project leads at Aurora WDC. Last year, students were able to tailor research toward the company’s use of new technology in the Milwaukee area, and they were part of a fictional company and worked with analyses reflecting on technology in the area of manufacturing. Students were able to gain insight to how data analysis
and research works in a global context.

Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin has provided multiple career speakers and activities in courses and K-12 career development events, and has also offered select high school students the opportunity to participate in the Froedtert New Berlin Moorland Reserve Health Care Academy. Students gain valuable experiences through multiple in-depth job shadows, mentorships, and activities.

The Mad Cete CEO and founder, Steve Chepp, has engaged in the SDNB’s Advanced Innovation and Design (iAID) mentor coaching, spoken for Junior Achievement Career Days to assist in academic and career planning of students, and most recently launched a beta test of an SDNB Game Jam for students interested in game design, graphics and/or computer science. The program was designed to simulate the real-world game development experience, where, through the course of the school year, students are guided through the
creation of an actual consumer-ready game using real world techniques.

Tim O’Brien Homes has provided opportunities to our students unparalleled in the state. They have provided students with opportunities to work with and learn from master tradesmen in multiple disciplines to build homes in the community. Students experience real construction sites and explore different careers options in the trades in a way that an educational establishment could never provide while gaining professional skills in a real setting, setting them apart from their peers.
